    DISABILITY RELATED PROFILE OF GWALIOR DISTRICT

    Introduction

    Gwalior district is spread over in 5214 sq.kms. and has a population of 1412226(1991 census). A total of 26,069 consisting 16835 males and 9234 female Persons with Disabilities (PWD) have been identified in the district. Out of which nearly 60% (15527) of them belong to rural areas and more than 76% (17866) are either from a Backward, Scheduled Caste or a Scheduled Tribe community. Main challange is to reach the unreached and make comprehensive rehabilitation services available to them near their door steps. The District Centre for persons with disabilities at Gwalior is first among the 11 centres in M.P. and out of the 107 centres being established all over India by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment,  Govt. of India in colloboration with each district administration.
